About Hyderabad metro project

 

Metro services in Hyderabad started on 29th November 2019 after its inauguration by the Indian Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi. As of today, the metros between Miyapur and Ameerpet along with Nagole and Ameerpet are running successfully. The rail network will cover a distance of 72 km across three corridors namely,

 

  • Corridor-1: Miyapur to LB Nagar
  • Corridor-2: JBS to Falaknuma
  • Corridor-3: Nagole to Shilparamam

Project cost

The initial budget of the Hyderabad Airport Metro project was set at Rs. 14,132 crore. While the central Government bore 10% of the cost, the rest was taken by L&T. The budget was updated to Rs. 15, 957 crores in March 2012 and on November 2017, the estimate was calculated to be Rs. Rs. 18, 800 crore.

Awards & nomination

The Hyderabad airport metro project has been awarded with the following:

  • In the year 2013 at the Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum, the metro rail project was nominated as one of the top 100 key global infrastructure projects in the world. The Government of India awarded it the Best Urban Mass Transit Project on November 2018.
  • L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited (LTMRHL) was awarded the SAP ACE Award 2015 in the category of ‘Strategic HR and Talent Management.
  • Rasoolpura, Paradise and Prakash Nagar metro stations were awarded Indian Green Building Council’s (IGBC) Green MRTS Platinum Award in 2018

• Stations (9): Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) Parade Ground, Secunderabad West, Gandhi Hospital, Musheerabad, RTC X Roads, Chikkadpally, Narayanaguda, Sultan Bazaar and Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS)

In addition, this line was originally proposed to be 14 kms long and connect Falaknuma. The construction process through the old city (5 km section) never started and was restricted due to various interferences over land acquisition.

Line-3 – Blue Line – Nagole – Raidurg (28 km, 23 stations)

The aforementioned extension is said to pass through Miyapur, BHEL, Kondapur, Gachibowli, Raidurg Mehdipatnam – Masab Tank – Lakdi Ka Pul. intersecting itself to form a ring for the north-west part of the city.

Blue Line Extension: Raidurg – Mindspace

  • Length: 1 km

Pricing System of Metro Rail

The metro stations are equipped with an electronic ticketing system. These systems offer features like contactless smart card-based ticketing, slim automatic gates, payment by cash and debit/credit card, manually-operated ticket vending machine and arrangement of the common ticketing system. It also has a provision of NFC-based technology to permit the usage of mobile phones to pay their fare.
